Ensenada, March 2008

THE GROUP
Our March 2008 expedition to Ensanda was wonderful! The group consisted of students and faculty from Aspen Academy. Aspen Academy is a small non-profit private school from Payson, Utah. This was Aspen Academy's third humanitarian expedition to Mexico with FFHE. They had previously traveled to Monterrey in 2005 and 2006. Nine students, the school director and two teachers were among the group that went. While in Mexico, the group stayed at the Door of Faith Orphanage, which is located in La Misión (about 30 minutes north of Ensenada). La Misión is a small agricultural community tucked in the foothills and overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

PROJECTS
We were able to work on several projects at the Door of Faith Orphanage and also ventured into Ensenada to do some work in the city. At the orphanage, we dug footings for the new nursery, and were also kept busy landscaping and building pathways.

The highlight of the trip was spending time with the orphans. They absolutely loved the teenagers. One student, Kyle Butler, was working on his Eagle Project and had collected toys and money to buy much needed supplies for the orphanage. Being able to actually travel to Ensenada to deliver them in person was something he’ll never forget. We played games with the orphans, made jewelry and spent time on the beach with them. The children are beautiful and are in great need of love and attention. The group was very grateful for such a wonderful opportunity to serve.
